This anatase-type nano-TiO2 photocatalyst is a nontoxic white powder, with strong photocatalytic redox effect and high chemical stability. Under the effect of ultraviolet light, sunlight or fluorescent light, the electrons (eˉ) are excited from the valence band to the conduction band to yield holes (h+) in the valence band. Then, the h+ and eˉ react with H2O and O2 on the surface of nano-TiO2 to generate highly active •OHˉ, •O2ˉ and •OOHˉ. The highly-oxidizing superoxide anion radicals, hydroxyl radicals and superoxide hydroxyl radicals can oxidize and decompose harmful organic pollutants such as formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, dimethylbenzene, ammonia and TVOC, odors and bacteria into harmless CO2 and H2O.
