Potassium fluoroborate application and synthesis method

Toxic potassium fluoroborate decomposes above the melting point to decompose toxic boron trifluoride gas. In the atmosphere, potassium fluoroborate hydrolyzes rapidly due to the action of water vapor and produces white smoke which is irritating to the skin, eyes and especially to the lungs . Protective measures see boron trifluoride and boric acid.

Chemical properties of white powder or gel-like crystals. No hygroscopicity. Bitter taste. Slightly soluble in water and hot ethanol, insoluble in cold ethanol.

Applications Abrasives for thermoset resin grinding wheels, raw materials for boron-containing alloys, fluxes for hot-welding and brazing, but also for chromium-chromium and lead-tin alloy electrolyte components

Use as analytical reagent and flux, but also for the manufacture of boron trifluoride, aluminum and magnesium casting mold, electrochemical engineering and chemical testing
